Want to know more about our travel insurance for Israel?

From medical emergencies to cancellations, here’s what to know about our coverage in Israel and how we can help care for you.

For most U.S. passport holders, travel insurance for Israel is not required to enter the country. You can visit Israel for up to 90 days without proof of insurance.

If you’re joining a birthright Israel trip, eligible health insurance for travel to Israel is mandatory. The program requires every participant to show proof of valid emergency medical coverage for Israel for the full duration of the trip. Many participants purchase short-term emergency medical coverage specifically to meet this requirement. Check with your organizer for the minimum requirements.

Whether you’re traveling for vacation, business, or a birthright Israel program, travel insurance is always a smart choice. It can help with more than just medical emergencies — think baggage loss, delays, trip cancellations, and trip interruptions.

For travelers looking for the highest level of protection, take a look at our Ultimate plan. It offers up to $250,000 in emergency medical expense coverage and up to $1,000,000 in emergency evacuation coverage ($50,000 emergency medical expense limit for residents of New Hampshire).

Our Ultimate plan also offers our pre-existing condition exclusion waiver if you purchase within 21 days of your first trip payment, insure all prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs and are medically fit at the time of purchase.

It’s always safer to stay updated on your surroundings — especially in a destination you may be less familiar with. Our Travel On app is available to all policyholders and provides real-time alerts about nearby concerns when you enable geolocation and notifications. You can also view destination risk ratings for health, crime, and other safety categories.

In addition, check what the U.S. government posts for travelers to Israel, including advisories and entry requirements. You can also sign up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive important safety alerts directly during your trip.

Yes. Whether you’re navigating Jerusalem’s narrow streets, driving along the Mediterranean coast, or exploring the Negev desert, our optional rental car damage upgrade can help protect you against eligible damage to standard rental vehicles caused by collisions, flood, fire, and more.

Keep in mind our coverage excludes mopeds, motorcycles, and specialty vehicle rentals.

Our base plans include coverage for moderate activities like guided hikes, snorkeling in the Red Sea, or cultural tours.

For higher-risk adventures — such as scuba diving beyond 75 feet in Eilat or free rock climbing in the Negev desert — you’ll need our adventure activities upgrade for coverage to apply. Certain activities are excluded from base coverage, but with the upgrade you can be protected during your more adrenaline-filled experiences.

Yes — all our plans offer coverage for cruises in Israel.

Whether you’re sailing along the Mediterranean coast, visiting Haifa or Ashdod on an itinerary, or extending your trip with stops in nearby ports, our cruise travel insurance can help with potential trip interruptions, eligible medical emergencies and evacuations, and even missed connections tied to cruise schedules.

You’ll be eligible for coverage throughout your trip as long as you’re not visiting destinations that are OFAC-sanctioned or on our blocked destinations list.

When you request a quote, enter the country where you’ll spend the most time. For example, if you’ll be in Israel for one week and Jordan for three days, list “Israel” as your destination.

Yes. If an eligible event prevents you from taking your trip to Israel, our Ultimate, Advantage, and Essential plans include trip cancellation coverage for specific reasons listed in your policy — such as sudden illness, injury, or unforeseen natural disasters.

Important: Our cancel for any reason upgrade is not currently available for trips to Israel or the West Bank territory of Palestine.

The best time to purchase travel insurance for Israel is soon after you make your first trip payment — whether that’s flights to Tel Aviv, a tour in Jerusalem, or a hotel stay along the Mediterranean.

Buying early offers eligibility for certain time-sensitive benefits, like trip cancellation protection and our pre-existing medical condition waiver.

You may be able to qualify for our pre-existing condition exclusion waiver, which is available only with our Ultimate plan.

To qualify, you’ll need to:

  • Purchase your plan within 21 days of your initial trip payment.
  • Insure 100% of your prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs.
  • Be medically able to travel at the time you buy the plan.
  • Insure any subsequent arrangements within 21 days of their purchase date.

This waiver can be especially helpful if you’re managing an ongoing medical condition while traveling in Israel — whether you’re exploring Jerusalem, visiting the Dead Sea, or heading to Tel Aviv.

It’s important to understand how our policies treat these situations.

  • War: Both declared and undeclared war, as well as acts of war, are excluded from coverage under all of our travel insurance plans. If your trip is disrupted by war in Israel, your policy will not provide coverage.
  • Terrorism: Our plans may provide coverage for terrorist incidents under the trip cancellation and trip interruption benefits. To qualify, the event must occur in a city on your itinerary, within five miles of your scheduled destination, and within 30 days of your scheduled arrival — or during your trip.
  • Civil unrest: Coverage for civil unrest, riots, insurrections, or related events is not included under any of our plans.

To stay informed while you’re in Israel, download our Travel On app for real-time safety alerts and tap-to-call access to our 24/7 assistance provider. You can also enroll in the U.S. State Department’s STEP program to receive security notifications.
