Want to know more about our travel delay insurance?
Travel insurance for trip delays can help reimburse you for the necessities you need during an unexpected travel delay, like meals or nights of accommodation. Time limits apply.
You can’t plan absolutely every second of your trip, and sometimes you’ll experience setbacks beyond your control. When you vacation with travel insurance for travel delays, you can have a smoother wait and may not be left paying completely out of pocket.
Our travel insurance for travel delays can kick in if you’ve been delayed for at least five* consecutive hours. These longer delays are more likely to mean you’ll need a place to stay or extra meals until your vacation resumes ... and our coverage is here to help!
When you vacation with our travel delay coverage and experience a delay of five* or more hours due to a covered reason in your policy, we can pay you back for unexpected lodging expenses, like a night in a nearby hotel. We can also reimburse the cost of your meals, telephone calls, and local transportation while you’re delayed up to the benefit limit listed in your policy. If you buy our Ultimate plan, you’ll even have a benefit that can help reimburse the cost of airline club admission at the airport.
Important: Remember to save all your receipts to submit with your travel delay insurance claim, so we have proof of your expenses. Plus, we won’t reimburse expenses you have after travel becomes possible again and your delay ends.
*Six hours for our Essential plan
You get our travel insurance with travel delay coverage on our Essential, Advantage, Ultimate, and Travel Med Go plans. Keep in mind that each plan has a total maximum eligible amount and a daily reimbursement limit. So, don’t forget to check your plan’s limit before you go shopping, because we can only pay back a certain amount for each day you’re delayed.
Here’s the limit we can reimburse per person for travel delay-related expenses depending on the plan you choose:
- Essential: $600 ($200 per day maximum)
- Advantage: $1,000 ($250 per day maximum)
- Ultimate: $2,000 ($250 per day maximum)
- Travel Med Go: $500 ($200 per day maximum)
Important: If travel becomes possible (meaning your airline can put you on an early flight the next morning), we can’t reimburse you for any expenses after that early flight time, even if you choose to take a later flight. Our coverage is here to help when there isn’t an option to continue traveling, so if an option becomes available, it’s smart to jump at the chance.
Yes, our travel delay insurance can reimburse your necessary expenses while you wait if your flight is delayed. But remember, we won’t pay for your delayed flight — just for your essential purchases during the delay of at least five* hours.

Our travel delay coverage can kick in if your delay of five or more hours is caused by:
- A common carrier delay.
- The loss or theft of your passport, travel documents, or money.
- Quarantine.
- Hijacking.
- A natural disaster.
- Adverse weather conditions.
- A documented traffic accident while you’re on your way to departure.
- An unannounced strike.
- A civil disorder.

- You or someone traveling with you passing away.
Important: For our travel delay insurance to apply, your delay must be the result of one of the reasons listed above.
