What is primary coverage?
Primary coverage means we’re the first ones to reimburse your emergency medical expenses — rather than your health insurance company — if we accept your medical-related travel insurance claim.

If you have medical expenses while traveling, secondary (or “excess”) coverage means you’ll need to file a claim with your health insurance provider first. Then, you can file a Travelex claim for potential reimbursement for the remainder.
At Travelex, our plans have review periods during which you can cancel your policy. If you no longer want your policy, it’s within the first 21 days after purchasing and you haven’t departed or filed a claim, we can refund your policy cost. The review period varies by state.
Trips don’t always go according to plan. And if something unexpected happens while you’re traveling, our plans can reimburse you for eligible unexpected costs.
It's a good idea to purchase a travel insurance plan as soon as you’ve made the first payment for your trip. The earlier you purchase, the sooner you have trip cancellation coverage in place to help protect your trip investment.
We want you to travel far and see the world, then come home safely. That’s why our travel insurance can cover you in all domestic and international locations without OFAC sanctions. (Countries with OFAC sanctions likely aren’t safe for visitors, so we’d rather you chose another destination.) We also can’t cover any countries listed on our blocked destinations page.
Yes. We know you want to travel with your favorite items, so we want to help protect them.
If your baggage, personal effects, or travel documents are lost, stolen, or damaged, we can reimburse you for replacements up to the limit shown in your policy.
The cost of your travel insurance policy can depend on many different details that are unique to you and those traveling with you. For example, your trip cost, state of residence, trip length, and age. Each of our plans and upgrades also have different pricing based on the coverage they provide.
Lots of credit cards include travel insurance, but the coverage often has lower benefit amounts than you’ll receive directly from a travel insurance provider like us. They also often include special conditions you must meet to activate your coverage.
