Why do I need additional medical coverage?

While most destinations you’ll visit on your vacations will have medical facilities, the costs for medical treatments vary from place to place.

If you’re planning to travel to a country or location that is known for higher medical costs – or if your upcoming trip includes adventurous activities – it’s a good idea to consider including the additional medical coverage upgrade in your travel insurance policy if you’re opting for the Travel Select plan. It can help protect you if an accident occurs and you’re stuck with a hefty medical bill.

How is the additional medical coverage upgrade different from the emergency medical benefits included in the Travel Select base plan?

While the emergency medical benefits and the additional medical coverage upgrade cover the same type of unexpected incidents, the upgrade enables you to add additional financial protection to the base plan’s coverage limit.

If you choose to include the additional medical coverage upgrade, you’ll receive an additional:

• $50,000 in emergency medical expense coverage; and
• $500,000 in emergency medical evacuation & repatriation of remains coverage

…on top of what is already included in the Travel Select base plan’s coverage limit.

Which Travelex travel insurance plans offer this upgrade?

The additional medical coverage upgrade is only available for inclusion on the Travel Select plan. For coverage to apply, you must be medically able to travel at the time you purchase your policy and all your trip costs must be insured.

If you purchase the Travel Basic, Travel America, Travel Med, Flight Insure, or Flight Insure Plus plan, you are unable to include this upgrade on your policy.
