Frequently asked questions

Can Travel America be used for international travel?

Travel America is only available for domestic trips within the United States. This includes all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, trips to U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico are not eligible for coverage on this plan.

If you’re looking for travel insurance for an international trip, Travelex’s Travel Select and Travel Basic plans can provide coverage.

What are shared benefits?

When it comes to travel insurance, shared benefits means the coverage amounts listed on the policy are shared across all covered travelers. In the event of a claim, the primary traveler who is listed on the policy would file the claim and submit all necessary receipts. The reimbursement on a claim will be paid to the primary traveler listed on the policy who will then distribute the funds to the traveling companions accordingly.

Are there any restrictions around Travel America?

Travel America is limited to trips within the United States that are 14 days or less in length and at least 100 miles away from your residence.

It is also important to know the trip cancellation and interruption benefit of this plan only provides coverage for trip costs up to $750. If you are looking for a plan with additional trip cancellation and interruption coverage, you will want to consider the Travel Select or Travel Basic plan.

What is secondary coverage?

While Travel America provides medical benefits that can help a traveler pay for out-of-pocket medical expenses, it is important to know the difference between primary and secondary coverage. Travel America includes secondary coverage, which means if you incur medical expenses while traveling, you will need to file a claim with your existing insurance provider and then file a claim for with your travel insurance provider for reimbursement.

If you are looking for a plan with primary coverage, you can choose Travelex’s Travel Select or Travel Basic plan. Primary coverage allows you to file a claim directly with your travel insurance provider and doesn’t require you to file a claim with an existing insurance provider. This can simplify the process as well as speed up the time to receive reimbursement.
